You may have heard of this privacy story in passing,
Basically the F.B.I. wants Apple to create software that will allow them to break into any iphone so they can access the phone of the shooter who killed 14 people in San Bernardino County, and was killed by police later.
If you haven’t heard about it, here are a few relevant articles:
Personally I don’t have a problem in Apple assisting the F.B.I. in accessing the one phone involved in the incident. But to give them the ability to break into any IPhone is wrong, and clear violation of our privacy.
Now, what does this have to do with you?
First, if you look at Apple’s stance, they are saying no, our brand is built on protecting the privacy of our customers. That is one of their core values. The question I have, is what are you willing to take a stand on? What are the values of your business?
Second, I think it should be safe to say, that You should choose wisely what companies you do business with. Do they protect your information? I’m not an apple spokesperson, but I love their products. I am glad to know that they are protecting my privacy. I don’t feel its right
to open our phones to the government, or the governments of the world especially when I have not committed any crime.
Things to Consider
Do you agree with Apple’s stance or do you believe they should break the law, and do as ordered?
Finally, what can you as a business owner can learn from this story?
